This argument is tight. The strongest point is the idea that demons exact a "coin of misery fear and pain." In regards to Dean's deal, there seems to be something more in it for the demons because of their special attraction to Sam. Sam was one of the "special kids" given powers by their association with Azazel, intended to lead Azazel's army, and mockingly referred to as the Boy King. Yet even after Azazel's destruction, with demons running amuck, he seems to have or be something demons want. Clearly Ruby sees the potential in Dean's deal for leverage on Sam-- couldn't we assume that that kind of leverage is implicit in every deal? In Christian tradition, possession, another demonic tool, was most valuable not because of the innocent who may or may not be destroyed by the possession, but because of the horror, doubt and despair instilled in the minds of those who witness the possession. In the case of Sam and Dean, it does appear that Sam is willing to leave his previously rather strict moral path behind when it comes to attempting to save Dean. Ruby may in fact help Sam save Dean, but what kinds of questionable acts may she lead him towards? Is it just that she is seeking the corruption of another soul, like she would any corollary, or is Sam being groomed for something more?
