How worried for the boys this episode left me! I really dread next episode. Anyway...
Some people thought that the angels were really made to unsympathetic in this episode, having destroyed Jimmy's family and everything. But like you, I thought about Jesus recruiting his disciples, and also, in the Old Testament, about Abraham being asked to sacrifice his son. The service of God is not a dream job, is what the Bible tells us - that's why you need faith. That's makes me very worried about what'll be asked of Dean.
I agree with you that Castiel didn't loose all compassion. When he was in Claire, speaking to Jimmy, he was fairly gentle. But he knows he's probably being watched, and he has always been so scared of falling.
All the actors were terrific. I agree that there was a lot to see in Jimmy's story that was in relation to the brothers, especially about the fact that family is still the core of the Show.
I'll see you next week. We'll all probably be a mess at that point.
