I also don't think Sam has been ignored this season. I think part of Samgirls' problem is that Dean is being focused. Starting last season, Dean has had a place in the overarching mytharc. And some Samgirls don't like that too much.
Since I've loved the angel storyline, I loved this episode. Although I'd rather hear about Castiel rather than the vessel he possessed, I still liked the parallels between Jimmy and Dean. (Plus Misha Collins is not only incredibly good-looking, he also is a terrific actor!)
I've been wondering how Dean would find out about Sam's addiction. (By the way, I called Sam's addiction as early as Lazarus Rising. However, I thought it would be to powers, not to drinking blood.)
Anyway, to end my long, rambling, incoherent review, great meta as usual! And I completely agree with everything you said in it!
